What is Acupuncture
Patients on every continent on earth have used Acupuncture as a natural healing method. Although relatively new in the US, it has become one of the best accepted alternative medicines.
For approximately 5000 years acupuncture theory has taught us that there is a network of energy (called chi or qi) that flows through the body and connects acupuncture points to meridians or channels. Symbolically you can think of the meridians as roadways such as major highways and local streets. If one of these roads is blocked, the effect is that traffic is also blocked on the road as well as connecting roads. Traffic cannot resume until the road has been cleared.
Acupuncture removes the blockage from the meridians and allows the flow of energy to resume to normal. These channels are related to specific internal functions or organs. and any imbalance in the flow of energy will cause a disease process. Any imbalance of energy detected is corrected by application of acupuncture at selected points. This allows the body to promote it's own healing mechanisms.
Any
acupuncturist you visit should be a state licensed medical
professional. Graduates of Oriental Medicine Colleges are fully
trained health care professionals. The training includes the study
of acupuncture, biosciences, oriental theory, bodywork and many other
forms of natural healing such as gua sha, cupping, electro-acupuncture
and moxabustion. Licensure
in the state of Connecticut requires almost 2000 hours in training, 500 of which must be clinical and passage
of national boards administered by the National Commission for
Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). The NCCAOM
offers certifications in Acupuncture and other Chinese modalities.Professionally Trained & Licensed Acupuncturist
